THE BAKEWELL COTTAGE NURSING HOME

 JOB DESCRIPTION – RGN

Responsible to:- The Home Manager

Accountable to:- The Home Manager, NMC and CQC

Main Function of the Position

  • The RGN will be responsible for the day-today running of the Home in the absence of the Home Manager.  The RGN must be qualified, competent and experienced to run the Home and help meet its stated purpose, aims and objectives.

Principal Responsibilities

  • To be accountable for the standards and to ensure that HIGH STANDARDS of quality of care are provided to the residents including their health needs, emotional and social needs and physical care.
  • To help provide effective leadership and be supportive to the Home Manager
  • To provide effective supervision to the care staff which enables and empowers staff to develop their skills and knowledge base.
  • Ensuring good communication exists at all levels
  • In conjunction with the Home Manager, be responsible and accountable for the Health and Safety of employees and residents within the Home. Ensuring that Risk Assessments are completed and amended as necessary.  Ensuring Care Plans are formulated updated and evaluated as required.
  • To take responsibility for own learning and keep own knowledge base up-to-date, which meets the requirements for registration with the NMC
  • Evidence of undertaken periodic training to update his/her knowledge, skills and competence.
  • To ensure that care staff receives formal documented practical staff supervision.
  • To ensure medical treatments ordered by residents’ respective medical GP are carried out and that any changes are communicated to other staff.
  • To create and maintain good reporting and communication systems to ensure the handover of full and accurate information.
  • To be responsible for the safe storage, control and administration of all drugs with reference to NMC and CQC statutory guidelines and recommendations.
  • To ensure that all records are compiled and kept in a safe place within the Home at all times.
  • To act as ambassador for the Home in the absence of the Home Manager by establishing and maintaining good relationships with all residents, visitors, prospective residents and professional or allied personnel.
  • To deal effectively with new enquiries re admissions

General

  • To maintain high standards of practice and report any incidences of suspected poor practice or abuse, in line with the Home’s procedures and polices.
  • To attend Home staff meeting as required
  • To undertake induction and other training as required by the Home, the NMC and follow the guidance received.
  • To maintain the Home as a pleasant friendly and secure place to live.
